With its roots in Jujutsu and Aiki-Jutsu Aikido was developed by Morihei Ueshiba (1883-1969) affectionately known as O'Sensei (Great Teacher) as a dynamic martial art that is effective against both armed and unarmed attacks but in a way to bring together in a common aim.
